ARTISTS’ RECEPTION 2 - 6 PM, June 29
“As a female gallerist since the 1980’s, I’ve experiences first-hand the struggle of women in the art world. From the early days of my career when I sold 19th and early 20th century American art, I witnessed many talented women painters who were relegated to still life and portraiture. They were encouraged by the male dominated schools and teachers to stay in their lane and not compete with the men. From my perspective, many women were much more talented and interesting than their male counterparts.
In my new gallery space in Washington Depot, I’m honoring women artists in an upcoming show, By Their Hands – Women Artists, featuring those who left their mark in years past to some of today’s most talented and successful artists. Join us for the opening day, June 29, and meet some of these extraordinary women who are coming in from all over the country to show their skills in painting, watercolor, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics and fiber art.
The opening day will support Hispanola Health Partners, an organization providing health care to needy Haitian women founded by Louise Lindenmeyr of Salisbury, CT.”
